Cables and Connectors

Note

The Rohloff E-14 Switch Unit, the Rohloff E-14 DC/DC-CAN Converter and the Rohloff E-14 Shifter Unit are not user serviceable. Their cables and connectors cannot not be repalaced separately. Damage to cables or connectors will require a complete replacement unit.

Separation of the cable connectors

Switch Bosch eBike System “off“.

Warning

Disconnection of the cable connectors while the Bosch eBike System is switched „on“, may lead to erratic behavior and possible irreparable damage of the individual components

Clean the cable connectors thoroughly before opening the connection to reduce the risk of contaminating the exposed pol’s.

Do not pull on the cables themselves!

Pull both cable connectors apart while keeping the connection as straight as possible. Make sure the cables are neither twisted nor kinked during this procedure.

Protect the exposed connector pols from dirt while separated.

Joining the cable connectors

Both male and female cable connectors are embossed with an arrow

There is an internal „key“ in the female connector…

…and an opposing notch in the male connector.

Both notch and key are located directly underneath these embossed arrows of the connectors.

Hold both connectors directly in front of one-another, ensuring the two arrows both point towards each other.

Gently push both male and female connector together and rotate lightly back and forth until they „click“ into position.

Do not force these together as that could damage the connector Pols!

Push both male and female connectors into each-other to their bed-stop.

Warning

Wait for at least 10 minutes after the Bosch eBike System was switched off, before rejoining the Rohloff E-14 cable connectors.

Avoid unnecessary twisting of the cables. Do not pull on the cables themselves. Avoid clamping, kinking and squashing the cables.

Great force upon the cable connectors can lead to irreparable damage of the individual connectors and cables.

A damaged cable connector will lead to an irreparable, complete failure of the Rohloff E-14 Shifting system.

Ensure connectors between Rohloff E-14 Shifter Unit and cable harness are secured correctly to the frame. Make sure that cables are unable to collide with moving bicycle components such as spokes, brake rotors etc.

Do not use any kind of contact spray in the cable connectors.

Variations of cable connectors

The following types of cable connector are used on the Rohloff E-14 shifting system, in connection with a Bosch eBike system:

Bosch eBike System > Rohloff E-14 DC/DC-CAN Converter

Connecting the Bosch eBike System to Rohloff E-14 DC/DC-CAN Converter

1 x black, 6-Pol Hirose connector
Pull back sliding collar and rotate connector ends in opposing directions to open.

Rohloff E-14 Switch Unit > Rohloff E-14 DC/DC-CAN Converter

Connecting the Rohloff E-14 Switch Unit to Rohloff E-14 DC/DC-CAN Converter

1 x blue, 4-Pol, Higo connector

Rohloff E-14 Shifter Unit > Rohloff E-14 DC/DC-CAN Converter

Connecting the Rohloff E-14 Shifter Unit to Rohloff E-14 DC/DC-CAN Converter

1 x lilac, 6-Pol, Higo connector

Warning

The individual Rohloff E-14 components are water resistant to moisture levels and pressure associated with normal cycling use.

Do not use high-pressure jet/power wash systems to clean a Rohloff E-14 equipped bicycle. The use of such systems is strictly prohibited. Water penetration will lead to irreparable operational interference of the Rohloff E-14 components.

Protect cable connectors during transport outside of a motor vehicle through rainstorms. The high transport speed increases the pressure with which water hits the connectors. The result is comparable to that when cleaning with a high-pressure jet/power wash system.

Do not use of aggressive chemicals and solvents to clean individual components. Solvent use may damage of the component materials and lead to irreparable operational interference of the Rohloff E-14 components.

Do not use any kind of contact spray in the cable connectors.

Do not clamp the cables and/or connectors via any other bicycle mounted components or bicycle transportation systems.

Do not kink or twist the cables and/or connectors. Repeated bending or twisting of these components can lead to irreparable operational interference.

Damaged cables must be replaced immediately.

Cables with damaged isolation coating must be replaced immediately..
