The new Tibet book from Andreas von Hessberg at the Bike-Expo Kassel/Germany

Last saturday Andreas von Heßberg (Mountainbike Expeditions Team) gave a report of his latest bike tour across the deserts of Australia at the Bike Expo in Kassel/Germany. He had with him, of course, his new Tibet guide for us. With nearly 400 pages it is really a hefty tome.

He writes on his homepage:

To undertake a bike tour in Tibet away from the main roads you need a bit of intensified preparation. Not only the back tracks are demanding, both conditionally and technically, also the daily supply with food and water is poor. One is on his own, especially if something gets broken. Additionally, you are traveling in great heights, where sunlight is intensified and the never lessening winds are taking physical and mental power off you.

Rich in contrast are the marvelous landscapes of Tibet, its nomads and Mountain peasants, the illuminating starlight of the night sky and many lonesome roads still compensate for all the strain. Tibet is not a simple, but a very beautiful country for riding bicycles. It makes you addicted to it!
