Pedal Knights Without A Stain And Without Fear - Bike Test On TV

Bike Test at Johannes B.Kerner Show on German TV ZDF

"From time to time let the car be and ride your bike. That's fine with the environment and your health", says Johannes B. Kerner in his latest TV-show on Tuesday night at German Broadcast ZDF. The German "Stiftung Warentest" (International Consumers Research and Testing (ICRT)) with its representative Dr. Holger Brackemann, who was invited to the show, has tested some models of different size- and price grades at the beginning of the bike season. Together with the German comedian Wigald Boning, who likes sporting activities, Johannes B. Kerner has taken a close look at some of the tested bikes.

The top-model naturally was provided with a SPEEDHUB 500/14. Dr. Holger Brackemann explains only the high-tech gear hub Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 can provide all 14 gears, which are really available. With a derailleur system there are 24 gears theoretically possible but only 14 real gears to choose. Whoever rides the biggest crank wheel in combination with the inner sprocket, expects too much of the chain, which undergoes much more strain and wear due to the extreme diagonal run. "The middle crank wheel should be used in combination with the middle sprocket", recommends the expert Brackemann. This will clearly reduce the number of the possible gears.
