European Championship Downhill Master 2006

Val di Sole/Commazzedura - Italy

The down-hill course of 2.800m length with its 513m height is very selective. There are some extraordinary deep slopes, which alternate with root passages and those blocked with mighty stones. As there have been several rain and thunderstorms again and again the ground conditions were anything else but optimal. The Masters class had an early start on Sunday, and had, therefore, some slippery conditions.

Carsten Geck (Rohloff Factory) took a good start and was partially on his way without any problems. In the lower part he, unfortunately, had a considerable crash, which put him off his stroke. To crown it all, a feather of his click-pedals broke, so a normal function of the pedals was no longer possible. He had to disengage his bike two more times after that incidence, and his ideal line was more than once ‚up the spout’.
That all just took too much time...

Many of the participants had to deal with the same kind of problems. In the end there was only the "wooden badge" to gain. 3rd place was narrowly missed.

On this track the Elite World Championship 2008 will take place, which shows its extraordinary quality.
