Error codes

Should an error occur, the display of your Bosch eBike System will indicate this by showing the applicable error code. It is critical that these error codesd are documented and shared with your local bike shop, to enable a smooth and speedy failure diagnosis.:

Firmware-Update for Rohloff E-14 2.0 - Improved Shift Performance

An important, new firmware update for the Rohloff E-14 2.0, electric gear mech is available as of right now, offering significant improvements.

The most important improvements offered by this firmware releasee include:

General improvements of the shift performance: The shift reliability and performance of each Rohloff E-14 2.0 unit will be significantly improved.

Bug fixes for pedelecs and S-Pedelecs: There have been a few isolated cases where users have noted occasional hesitation or refusal to down-shift – both in single- and multi-shift modes.

The Auto-Downshift feature is not affected by the Bug mentioned above.

This firmware update should be completed ASAP, to ensure all users are able to profit form the benefits.

Update installation procedure is to be completed as follows:

1. Download and install the Rohloff E-14 2.0 APP to your mobile device (Android or Apple iOS)
2. Open the Rohloff E-14 2.0 APP and connect to the Rohloff E-14 2.0 Shifter Unit
3. Enter the „Settings“ menu
4. Select „Update Firmware“
5. The new Firmware version will be displayed on the App, if an update is available
6. Select „Install Firmware Update“
7. The Firmware update will be installed
8. Re-start the Bosch eBike System (switch off, then back on again)
9. The Rohloff E-14 2.0 Shifter Unit is now running the updated Firmware, and is ready for use
10. Going back to the update menu, and selecting „Update Firmware“ again, will show that the E-14 Firmware is up-to-date. This can be done to verify the success of the update procedure

No visible error code - no error code shown in eBike display

542006, Warning - Identical gear detected – Your eShift automatic system has detected an error.

Shifting possible

Error:

The Bosch drive unit has incorrectly learned two identical gear ratios. This gear-learning process is part of the system's optimization of the walk-assist function up to 3.5 km/h.

Result:

  • Shifting gears remains possible

Error correction:

An update will be available via the Bosch Flow App starting July 14, 2025. The following troubleshooting will then no longer be necessary.

To rectify error 542006, the eShift functionality must be removed via the  Bosch DiagnosticTool 3.

Required procedure (to be performed by an authorized dealer):

  1. Disconnect the connector of the E-14 shift unit in order to intentionally trigger error code 1C7410.

  2. With the E-14 unit still disconnected, connect the bike to the Bosch DiagnosticTool 3.

  3. Navigate to Diagnostics & Configuration and remove the eShift configuration.

  4. Power off the system and reconnect the E-14 shift unit.

  5. Upon the next system start-up, the error will no longer be present.

  6. Finally, ride the bike with motor assistance and shift through all gears to allow the system to re-learn the gear ratios. 

E-14 system can continue being used

1C7410, eShift Error - No Connection at Start-up

Shifting possible

Error:

Code 1C7410 will be displayed in the cockpit, and Bosch diagnostic tool
The E-14 2.0 Shifter Unit peep's 3 times when the eBike is initially switched "on"

Result:

  • Shifting gears remains possible
  • Code 1C7410 only present in the error code cache

Possible Causes:

Software routine interrupted at eBike start-up

Error correction:

  • Delete the error code from the Bosch software
  • Ensure the latest verison of the E-14 2.0 firmare is installed. Update
  • Reset Bosch eBike system (switch off, then back on)

E-14 system can continue being used

 

Shifting not possible

Error:

Code 1C7410 will be displayed in the cockpit, and Bosch diagnostic tool
The E-14 2.0 Shifter Unit fails to peep when the eBike is initially switched "on" 
The E-14 2.0 Shifter Unit does not react

Result:

Shifting is not possible.

Error correction:

  • Switch Bosch eBike system off, check all cables and cable connections, retesting the shift ability after each step:
    - Rohloff E-14 2.0 Shifter Unit + Rohloff E-14 Extension Cable
    - Rohloff E-14 Extension Cable + Rohloff E-14 DC-CAN Adapter
    - Rohloff E-14 DC-CAN Adapter + Bosch Drive Unit
  • Test DualBattery eBikes also with just one battery fitted, then just the other battery
  • Should the system fail to start up with only one battery fitted, then this would indicate a defective battery
     
  • Swap out E-14 components in the following sequence, testing each time, to identify faulty components:
    - Rohloff E-14 2.0 Shifter Unit
    - Rohloff E-14 Extension Cable
    - Rohloff E-14 DC-CAN Adapter
     
  • Ensure the latest verison of the E-14 2.0 firmare is installed. Update
  • Switch Bosch eBike system back on
  • Recheck the Rohloff E-14 2.0 system functionality
     
  • Should the issue be rectified, delete the error code from the Bosch software
  • Should you be unable to rectify the issue, contact your local Rohloff SPEEDHUB-Service (Serviceformular).

1C7411, eShift Error - Connection Lost

Error:

Code 1C7411 will be displayed in the cockpit, and Bosch diagnostic tool
The E-14 2.0 Shifter Unit peep's 3 times when the eBike is initially switched "on"

Result:

  • Shifting gears remains possible
  • Code 1C7411 only present in the error code cache

Possible Cause:

  • E-14 Shifter Unit was disconnected from the eBike while active / with eBike switched "on"

Error Correction:

  • Delete the error code from the Bosch software

E-14 system can continue being used

 

Shifting not possible:

Error correction:

  • Delete the the error code from the Bosch software
  • Ensure the latest verison of the E-14 2.0 firmare is installed. Update if necessary
  • Reset Bosch eBike system (switch off, then back on)
  • Check all cables and cable connections, retesting the shift ability after each step:
    - Rohloff E-14 2.0 Shifter Unit + Rohloff E-14 Extension Cable
    - Rohloff E-14 Extension Cable + Rohloff E-14 DC-CAN Adapter
    - Rohloff E-14 DC-CAN Adapter + Bosch Drive Unit
  • Refer to the Bosch eBike-Service-Hotline, after forwarding them the diagnostic report created with the Bosch DiagnosticTool 3

1C7412, eShift Error - Authentication Failed

Error:

Code 1C7412 will be displayed in the cockpit, and Bosch diagnostic tool

Result:

  • Connection to electrical shifting system failed
  • Electrical shifting not possible

Error Correction

  • Reset Bosch eBike system (switch off, then back on)

E-14 system can continue being used

Shifting is not possible

  • Create diagnostic report
  • Delete the error code from the Bosch software
  • Reset Bosch eBike system (switch off, then back on)
  • Ensure the latest verison of the E-14 2.0 firmare is installed. Update if necessary
  • Refer to the Bosch eBike-Service-Hotline, after forwarding them the diagnostic report created with the Bosch DiagnosticTool 3

1C7413, Fehler eShift - Incompatible Software

Error:

  • 1C7413 The Software in the Bosch Cockpit, is not compatible with eShift operations.

Result:

  • The Bosch eBike system cannot recognize E-14 commands.

Error Correction:

  • Delete the error code and and complete a software update using the Flow App.
  • Re-start the eBike
  • Should the problem remain present, contact your local bike shop / Bicycle manufacturer.

1C7414, eShift Error- multiple eShift Systems installed parallel

Error:

Fehler 1C7414 wird im Display des Cockpits und im Bosch Diagnosetool angezeigt

Result:

  • Zero Function
  • Code only present in Error code cache

Possible Cause:

Multiple eShift components installed parallel to each other

Error Correction

  • Disconnect / remove non-required eShift components Fehler löschen
  • Re-start eBike system

E-14 system ready for further use

1C7440, eShift Error - motor blocked

Error:

Error code 1C7440 is displayed in the E-14 cockpit and error code cache (Bosch Diagnostic Tool) only

Possible cause:

  • The previous E-14 2.0 gear shift was interrupted
  • The E-14 2.0 motor was blocked
  • Excessive force was applied to the pedals during the shift process

Error correction:

  • Attempt the shift again, while applying less force to the pedals

E-14 system ready for continued use if the shift function can now be performed correctly

Should shifting remain not possible:

  • Perform and save a diagnostic report
  • Delete error code cache
  • Ensure the visible cog in the E-14 2.0 Shifter Unit is free from visual defects
  • Ensure the small cog "D" under the axleplate is free from visible defects and mounted correctly (Rohloff SPEEDHUB Owners Manual).
  • Contact the Rohloff Service Department (Serviceformular).

1C7441, eShift Error - Sensor defective

Error:

Error code 1C7441 is sdisplayed in the Bosch cockpit, as well as in the error code cache (Bosch eBike Diagnostic Tool)

Error Correction

  • Delete Error message from display
  • Re-set Bosch eBike system (switch off, then back on again)

Shifting Possible

  • E-14 system is ready for continued use

Shifting not possible

  • Perform and save a diagnostic report
  • Delete error code cache
  • Re-set Bosch eBike system (switch off, then back on again)
  • Should shifting remain not possible, then contact the Rohloff Service Department (Serviceformular).

1C7443, eShift error- electrical current too low

Error:

Error code 1C7443 is displayed in the cockpit as well as in the error code cache (Bosch Diagnostic Tool)

Not possible to shift using the E-14 2.0 gear mech

Error correction:

  • Perform and save a diagnostic report
  • Delete error codes
  • Switch off the Bosch eBike system. Check each cable connection, re-starting the eBike system to check function after each individual step:
    - Rohloff E-14 Shifter Unit + Rohloff E-14 Extension Cable
    - Rohloff E-14 Extension Cable + Rohloff E-14 DC-CAN Adapter
    - Rohloff E-14 DC-CAN Adapter + Bosch Drive Unit
     
  • Should the problem not be resolved:
     
  • Replace each E-14 2.0 component with those from the E-14 diagnostic kit separately, re-starting the eBike system to check function after each individual step:
    - Rohloff E-14 Shifter Unit
    - Rohloff E-14 Extension Cable
    - Rohloff E-14 DC-CAN Adapter
  • Re-start the Bosch eBike system
  • Check the Rohloff E-14 Shifter Unit for damage and/or other visual defects
     
  • Should shifting remain not possible, then contact the Rohloff Service Department (Service Formula).

1C7445, eShift Error - gear calibration unsuccessful

Error:

Error code 1C7445 is displayed in the eBike cockpit, as well as in the error code cache (Bosch Diagnostic Tool)

Possible Causes:

  • Electronic gear calibration did not work
  • An error arose during the auto-calibration process
  • Force was aplied to the pedals during the auto-calibration process
  • Grub-screw (under E-14 2.0 gear mech) has been inserted too deep into the SPEEDHUB axle

Error correction

  • Re-start the autocalibration process or perform a manual calibration (see E-14 2.0 Owners Manual)
  • Perform the auto-calibration process anew, without force upon the pedals
  • Repeat the auto-calibration process (auto-calibration)
  • Check the depth of the grub-screw and adjust if necessary (Mounting the E-14 Shifter Unit)

Should the auto-calibration process continue to fail, contact your local bicycle shop, and ask that they perform a manual calibration process → manuel calibration
