Morocco – Mountains, sea & a total damage

Barely believable, that we're now on the way for almost 2 months with our bikes through the fascinating Morocoo. The hourglass is running.

So we're basically enjoying the last part of our tour through the country, which Melli has already known very well since childhood, thanks to her moroccan roots - and also not really.

From Fes we cycled towards the Tazekka national park, whereby we were checked by the police more often than usual and got more or less accompanied by incognito police officers - in sweatpants and slippers. This is probably a consequence of the tragedy, that happened in 2018 in the Atlas, where two young scandinavians became the victims of a brutal murder. We have to say, that we never felt threatened at any time or stood in a real situation of danger. So the safety of the tourists is being taken very seriously here. The natives were always friendly to us and welcomed us with open arms.

The landscape of Morocco didn't take our breath just once. We chased each other all the way up the middle or the high Atlas with our fully packed bikes for days. We floated through abandoned and sparse moon landscapes. We had nothing but the sand of the sahara before our noses. We let our view swipe over the coast of the west of the country... All moments had one thing in common: The view we could enjoy, was something you can't buy with any money in the world!

But unfortunatly there was a series of bad luck just in time to the start of 2020. By the way, we celebrated it in Marrakesch. Dani had an accident on the way there, where his bike involuntarily encountered another car. The result of this short but intense liaison was a broken bike frame. In Germany this would've been a total damage, but in Morocco basically everything gets „repaired“. After all the frame got welded in a sort of „garage“. To be honest wer're still worried, that the luggage as well as Dani have to get from A to B safely for a while... The second incident then took place on new year's. One month there were still beautiful memories being fotographed, the next the phone went missing. The entire locality we were in was completely turned upside down, unfortunatly without any success. Someone else is probably happy about his new cool phone now. Just a little inconvinient, that we not only took our photos with it, but also edited them with it, organized ourselves with it and did many other cool things, that we'd rather not think about anymore... so it shall be. C'est la vie - that's life. We're fine, we're healthy and that's all what counts! ;)

No day is like the other. One adventure chases the next. Many special people cross our path. And then there's the food... So diverse, so fresh, so colorful and so incredibly tasty! No wonder, that we enjoy every day, that we can spend here. Unfortunatly though, there's one factor, which is considerably limited and its name is „visa“.  You actually can't complain with 90 days. But if you'd want to get to know the country, the culture and the hospitality of the people more intense, then 5 months in row probably still wouldn't be enough. ;)

In our blog articles about Morocco we report i.a. about our spontaneous moroccan flash wedding and about other experiences by bike through this amazing country.
