Final Tour for Tilman Waldthaler „Back to the Future“ - April 2011

Below is a snippet from a letter Tilmann Waldthaler wrote over his last expedition:

„I began my long cycle expedition from Norway to New Zealand in June 2010. The planned route would take me from Norway through Finland, Estonia, St. Petersburg, Sweden, Denmark, Germany down into Switzerland...

...The name I chose to christen this tour was not purely chance - it actually has a much deeper significance. In 1977 the life-circle of cycling opened for me in Invercargill and this expedition was planned to finally close the circle and bring me back to where it all started. Upon my arrival in New Zealand I plan to finally hang up my touring bike for good and concentrate on other interests. My new future will begin. Phase 3.

...During my time at home, many things have happened. zuhause ist sehr viel passiert. Devastating climatal changes in Australia have always pushed us further towards the edge of catastophies. Water currenty of great magnitude, tornados with speeds of up to 300km/h and forest fires have gripped the Australian continent ferociously. We are lucky and have remained protected to date...

It is now time for my expedition to begin and on the 14th of April, my cycle tour will continue. I would like to thank my wife Renate, my loyal sponsors and the organizers of my lectures for their support...

...We should always try and see the good in people so that this unbelieveably abused and strained world can once again beseen in teh correct light. Only so can we hope to see 'The Illuminated Globe'.
