Ceremonial inauguration of Bernhard-Rohloff-Straße in Fuldatal, posthumous tribute to visionary bicycle pioneer Bernhard Rohloff

Fuldatal-Ihringshausen, May 14, 2025 – With great joy and palpable pride, employees of Rohloff AG, representatives of the Fuldatal community, and the family of company founder Bernhard Rohloff, who passed away in 2023, gathered on Wednesday for a celebratory occasion: the inauguration of Bernhard Rohloff Street in Fuldatal's western industrial park.

Mayor Tore Florin unveiled the new street sign during a ceremony and paid tribute to Bernhard Rohloff's life's work in his address. "With his innovative strength, Bernhard Rohloff not only revolutionized bicycle technology, but also shaped our region as a center of pioneering technology," Florin emphasized. He particularly highlighted the development of the first 9-speed bicycle chain, the S-L-T 99, in 1984 and the legendary 14-speed Speedhub 500/14 hub gear in 1998 – milestones that garnered worldwide attention and made the Rohloff name synonymous with quality and engineering excellence in the bicycle industry.

Since production began at the Fuldatal site in 2004, Rohloff AG has manufactured over 400,000 gear hubs, which are known for their exceptional durability and efficiency – particularly valued in touring bikes and e-pedelecs, where maximum durability is required. With the latest generation, the electronically controlled E-14, the company sets standards in functionality and user-friendliness.

In his brief speech, CEO Werner Schiller thanked Mayor Tore Florin, his predecessor Karsten Schreiber, and the Fuldatal municipal council on behalf of the family, the company, and all employees of Rohloff AG for the special honor expressed by the street dedication. He promised to continue Bernhard Rohloff's innovative spirit together with Mirco Rohloff, the son of the company founder, and his colleagues from development.

Naming the street after Bernhard Rohloff is far more than a symbolic gesture – it represents a life's work that combines technology, passion, and pioneering spirit. For the employees of Rohloff AG, it is both an incentive and an obligation to help shape the future of bicycle mobility with quality "Made in Fuldatal."
