Project Torpedalo: 14 gears, 38 days & 3000 miles of ocean

11.05.2011

Mark Byass and Mike Sayer are both keen charity fundraisers and have undertaken numerous physical and mental challenges over previous years in order to raise funds for worthy causes. Their latest endeavor however will push them that one step further in an attempt to raise over a quarter million pounds and hopefully break a few world records along the way!

Project Torpedalo has been born. A predicted 28 month project to design, build and race a pedal powered boat capable of crossing the Atlantic ocean (achieved previously only twice) in a projected 38 days. This will not only smash the world pedalo record of 111 days but also break the pairs rowing world record which currently stands at 40 days and six hours!

All funds raised through from Project Torpedalo will be evenly distributed between both the 'mnda' (Motor Nurone Disease Association) and the 'Make a Wish Foundation'. These two charities are important to both Mark and Mike and will no doubt push their motivation that little bit further.

The Rohloff AG are delighted to be involved in such a unique project and have sponsored Project Torpedalo a special SPEEDHUB 500/14 for the task.

We wish the entire team Torpedalo all the best with the upcoming challenges.
