Video: German TV Channel ZDF Mittagsmagazin

The peculiarity with this bike tour is not the distance ridden, it is the altitude reached. André Hauschke started off in South America on the Pacific coast from where he proceeded to lead his tour strictly uphill. His aim: to reach the summit of the highest volcano on earth, the Ojos del Salado in Chile. On April 1st 2010 André Hauschke accomplished a new world record for cycling altitude - 6085m above sea level - higher than anyone had previously reached with a bicycle.

Not once did he push or carry his bike, only cycling, was the project of André Hauschke and his two comrades when they started at the shores of the Pacific Ocean with their mountain bikes. They simply rode upwards arcoss the Atacama desert, over gravel and sandy tracks, with wind and weather at the Ojos del Salado.

André Hauschke mastered ascents of up to 26 percent and has travelled 350 km through untouched nature, hostile regions and beautiful mountain landscapes. He literally set his targets very high - and was succesful. This remarkable bike tour took Hauschke and his comrades to their limits in many ways.
